This network exists to support senior citizens, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and neighbors with limited resources. UCAN does not provide these services directly โ we connect verified requests to volunteers and partners.

Housekeeping
Our goal is to help neighbors keep a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment. With volunteers and partners, UCAN connects residents to housekeeping support that gets a home back on track.
- General cleaningKeeping living spaces fresh and organized so the home is more manageable.
- Trash removalRemoving household waste and clutter to create a safer, healthier environment.
- Window cleaningInterior or exterior windows, as volunteers or partners are able.
- Carpet cleaningReferrals to refresh and maintain carpets.
- Power washingDriveways, patios, siding, and other outdoor surfaces.
Yard maintenance
By working with volunteers and business partners, UCAN helps neighbors who cannot keep up with yard work on their own.
- Lawn mowing and trimmingKeeping lawns neat by mowing grass and trimming edges.
- Debris removalClearing fallen leaves, branches, and other debris for a safer yard.
- Gardening and landscapingPlanting, mulching, weeding, and general garden care.
- Tree and shrub trimmingPruning to maintain health and appearance.
- General yard maintenanceRaking, sweeping, and outdoor tidy-up.
Home repair
UCAN does not perform licensed trades itself. We connect neighbors with volunteers for light tasks and with licensed partners for skilled work โ always coordinated through UCAN first.
- Home repairsPlumbing, electrical, roof and structural, painting, drywall, carpentry, and general handyman work.
- Appliance repairsRefrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and other household appliances.
- General repairsDoors, windows, cabinets, decks, patios, and related items.
- HVAC maintenanceCleaning, routine maintenance, and servicing of heating and cooling systems.
Winter support
Seasonal assistance during harsh winter conditions, provided by volunteers based on availability, safety, and discernment. All assistance must be coordinated through UCAN before work begins.
- Snow shoveling and saltingClearing sidewalks and driveways for seniors, veterans, and those with mobility challenges.
- Emergency access clearingHelping keep access open for medical needs, caregivers, or emergency vehicles.
- Vehicle support in cold weatherJump-starts, battery checks, and minor troubleshooting as able.
- Storm check-insVolunteers may visit or call isolated neighbors during severe weather.
Encouragement & hospitality
Volunteer acts of kindness to uplift neighbors through creativity, compassion, and community spirit.
- Holiday card projectsCommunity-made Christmas cards for seniors, veterans, caregivers, and isolated neighbors.
- Birthday blessingsCards, small gifts, or flower deliveries on a special day.
- Christmas carolingVolunteer-led caroling during the holiday season.
- Veteran tribute cardsPersonalized thank-you cards recognizing service and sacrifice.
- Companionship visitsConversation, reading, games, or simply being present.
A note on coordination
All assistance must be coordinated through UCAN before work begins. Beneficiaries should contact UCAN in advance and use contractors or providers in the referral network. UCAN cannot guarantee payment or reimbursement for work arranged independently.
